Some Random Rants
I have a slight alter ego that my friends call “Sassy Allison.” Sassy Allison isn’t always outwardly presented, but she is pretty often in my head. And when the moment is right, she is unleashed in public in the form of rants.
Here are some rants Sassy Allison has thought about recently.
Is Rocket Money a scam? Ok, I get that probably it’s not. But the fact that every other ad on podcasts I listen to is for Rocket Money, it starts to feel like a Pay Day Loan or something. Users save $750 a year when using the premium features? So you’re paying money to save money? Why not use a free or cheaper app? Why are you signing up for so many subscriptions you can’t keep track? If I sign up for a “free trial” that I know I don’t need, I also put a notice on my calendar “CANCEL FREE TRIAL” so I don’t get billed. I sound so old but stop being lazy and just keep track of your spending I guess?? Or maybe I am just really tired of Rocket Money advertisements.
Electrolytes. Does everyone need them? No! I have talked to a nutritionist friend about this. Yes, they have value for people who have low sodium or who exercise and sweat frequently. But the general population? Have you tried water? It’s really good and (usually/often) free! And a great way to stay hydrated. Again, I’m not talking about marathon runners or hot yoga instructors. Outside of that, do you need daily electrolytes? Probably not. Hearing someone say “Dad, did you take your electrolytes?” Ugh! (Ok, I know I don’t have all the info, perhaps this dad does need them due to a medical condition or some other reason) But I kinda doubt it. Like, please.
TURN OFF YOUR CAR! This is my biggest one. And I know I KNOW that it “doesn’t matter” that leaving cars idling doesn’t come close to using a private jet or whatever. But it’s so easy to turn the key or hit the power button and NOT be spewing fumes into the atmosphere. I’m obviously talking about gas powered vehicles. If you're cold, put on a coat or go inside. If you’re hot, roll down the window or get outside. Don’t keep the AC or heat running. It may not be a huge impact, but you can easily just turn off the car and stop impacting the air quality even 0.0005% adds up (this is a made up number).
I’ll leave these now so I don’t get too mean or worked up. (Like AI, gotta leave that for a longer post maybe) Anyway, my judgmental side is showing. I wanted to get these items out of my brain. Curious what others think? What are your current rants?

Great list! on the last one, its why car manufacturers have the auto off at stop lights, turn off the engine even for a 1 minute, the start process takes less gas.
Electrolytes. Oh Boy. I have had this argument from all my southern friends, multiple times. Do they do something? Yes, but not what you think... your body can't process them in the time you use them, maybe 100-200 milers the exception. They do reduce the viscosity of water for better absorption, which is likely what you experience as the benefit.
Rocket Money. Don't know that Allison, but it does seem ironic. Like we made a mess, and now we need help cleaning it up? You can't figure that out on your own, like say, look at your bank account for charges maybe? Figure out how to cancel those things? Maybe?
I have so many!
1) don't stop at a yield. look left BEFORE you enter the roundabout, you can time you entry. DO NOT STOP.
2) Politics is NOT a sports event. Just because your side "wins" doesn't make us slaves. We are all still here, we all need our representatives to actually represent ALL of us. You got elected, you didn't "WIN" anything but the right to do a job. Now go do it.
3) Stop telling me all the things I "should be doing" to be a runner. If I did everything recommended, I'd never have time for running. Or sleeping. Or eating. There a miriad of ways to move to benefit balance, flexibility, mobility. They don't have to be complicated. Stick to basics. I don't care about your complex training norwegian double lactic threshold fartlek tempo zone crossing work outs. All that shit is the 5% the elites might consider to gain a 1% edge. I'll do: two work outs per week, and the rest easy runs. That's it. And my easy run is completely 100% based on how I am feeling. I don't give a shit what my watch says. Don't suck the joy out of my fun thing.
Wow that felt good! Thanks for letting me vent!
